Marketing Mistakes I Want You To Avoid

April 6, 2011

Hello MTM readers we are once again at the middle of the week, we blink and the week is almost gone. I hope all of you are having a very stress free, productive, and profitable week thus far. Lately we have been talking about ways to boost your sales and get those clients you deserve, today I want to switch gears and talk about the mistakes that can be made and how to avoid them for the sake of your success. It’s beneficial to be educated on both the success and failures of any business.

Common Mistake 1: Not knowing your target market. I can’t stress enough that NOT doing research and picking the right target market is a very common mistake. Many think they can just jump in the market and start selling their product and/or service, but they can’t.Who are you going to sell it to? An how? More importantly, who wants or needs your product? These are all questions answered in the research and these are all questions you need the answer to if you plan on being successful.

Common Mistake 2: You don’t know your statistics. Another potentially fatal mistake to be made is not tracking your marketing campaigns and sales statistics. Without tracking your sales and campaigns you won’t know what is successful for you and your business. It is important to know what is working for you and what is not. Knowing what’s working and what’s not will also save you money instead of wasting it because you can know cute those things that don’t work.

Common Mistake 3: Expecting prospects and clients to be mind readers. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again a prospect will NOT know what you want them to do with your offer unless you tell them. Some believe and count on if the prospect is interested and need more information they’ll call for more information. I urge you to not rely on that assumption, but rather take the extra time and white space on your campaigns and give your prospects a Call To Action, let them know exactly how to take advantage of your offer and reap the benefits.

Common Mistake 4: Focusing on you and your business in your marketing materials. Now please don’t misunderstand giving background information on you and the business to prospects is good and should be done, but should not be the focus. Making yourself and the business the focus will cause the prospects to respond with a, So what? or Who cares? or even an And?. So, instead of making the mistake of focusing on you and your business refocus and focus on the prospect in your marketing. Remember to be successful focus and market in your materials what your prospects care about not yourself.

Common Mistake 5: Giving up too quickly. Being an effective marketer entails being persistent and repetitive. Prospects have many reasons for not buying immediately buying so don’t give up after just one initial contact or even one followup. By following up with your prospects repeatedly will give you a tremendous advantage. You get the advantage over your competitors because due to you persistence when prospects are ready to buy you are first on their mind of where to make the purchase.

Common Mistake 6: Not taking advantage of free and low cost marketing. Just because the marketing method is free or low cost doesn’t mean it isn’t a successful way to market and won’t be profitable to you. So, go right ahead use these proven successful marketing methods. Marketing doesn’t have to be expensive for you to draw business so save yourself some money and make money at the same time.

These are just a few of the many mistake that can be made when marketing, but I also think these are BIG mistakes with irreversible consequences making you a failure. So, avoid these costly mistakes now to stay on the road to success.
