Marketing on Twitter Done Easy

Happy Hump Day MTM readers. Here we are again the middle of the week already. Monday we discussed the social media outlet Facebook and how to market you and your business on Facebook. In lieu of that I would like us to continue discussing social media and how to use a social media outlet to market you and your business. Today’s social media outlet up for discussion is Twitter.

In the past I have mentioned Twitter but we haven’t yet discussed Twitter in depth. So, lets begin: Twitter is another social networking site that is free to use and is another great way to market, be successful, and save money at the same time. So, how do you successfully market on Twitter then? Well, here’s how….

First, if you don’t already have one you need to sign up for a twitter account by going to twitter.com. Again, signing up and using Twitter is free. When setting up your Twitter profile consider using your real name instead of your business name. Using your real name will help yo build credibility.

Second, Have a great bio. When setting up your Twitter account you will also have the opportunity to enter a biography that your followers and other Twitter users will see when looking at your profile. With that said, use the bio as an opportunity write a short summary about you and your business. Be sure the bio sums your business up and catches the attention of potential followers.

Third, now it’s time to start following and gaining followers. You want to follow those that are in your niche. The way you determine if someone is good to follow is by looking at their bio and I also look at their tweets to see if they are relevant. So, if you are a business coach then you want to start by following other business coaches and watch as your followers begin t grow. A great tool that I use to find people to follow is by using Twellow. Twellow is dubbed as the yellow pages for Twitter.

Fourth, Start tweeting and re-tweeting. Now that you have followers and you are now following others it’s now time to start engaging your followers though tweets and re-tweets. Posting tweets and re-tweets will also help you gain credibility and followers. When posting tweets be sure to post tweets that are relevant to your audience and your business. Create tweets promoting events and news bout your business as well. When posting re-tweets (RTs) well, firs let’s talk about re-tweets. Re-tweets are tweets posted by other twitter users that you re-post. When sending out re-tweets be sure they also pertain to your business and your audience as well.

Fifth, Send out a Thank you and participate in #FF. A great way to gain credibility is b showing your appreciation. When someone re-tweets one of your posts simply send them a note saying, Thank you for the RT. Another great way to gain credibility and grow your followers is through sending out #FFs. #FFs stands for Follow Fridays on twitter. On Fridays send out #FFs to/for a few of your followers and/or those that have re-tweeted your posts.

My Advice: One last thing before you go, I want to give advice on managing your twitter. Consider getting a Hootsuite account, also free but will help you be a twitter marketing success. With the Hootsuite account it will have a tab of mentions. Under mentions you will see who has RT your posts and who has sent you a #FF, making it easier for you to send out thank yous and #FFs. Another great advantage to Hootsuite is that you can schedule tweets and re-tweets to post directly to your twitter page. Note: When scheduling tweets and re-tweets spread out the times an choose odd times. This ensures that it doesn’t seem like a robot sending out tweets. Lastly, another great advantage to Hootsuite is that it allows you to set up keyword searches. Whenever the keywords you designate show up in posts on Twitter those posts will show up in your search on Hootsuite, this makes re-tweeting relevant posts easier.

Using social media for marketing is the latest trend in marketing and is highly successful. Not only is social media outlets such as Twitter or Facebook free, but it’s successful because it’s a great way to build brand recognition and drive traffic to your website and/or blog. So, MTM you now have two social media outlets you can go successfully use to market not to mention it’s free. Happy Marketing MTM!!!
